Can you be the next Elon musk of India? What are you waiting for? START IT UP!

From the past century, Indian students have seemed to be amazingly strong and stay as one among the top in the world, when it comes to academics.

This is evident from the increasing number of MNC's in India

If our students were brainy with good analytical logical critical skills, etc, why would they predominantly opt for well-settled jobs and positions, with much more safety and security? why are they not using their innovative skills and ideas to venture into business? why are we typically not prone to take risks, basically why are we risk phobic?

It's because we had no choice !!

To get it clearly, let's head back to the beginning of post-independence days

During those days the majority of our people were uneducated and were belonging to the middle and lower class category, on the other hand, most of these families were into full-time farming.

2 key points of families during the post-independence era.

- Families was very big with many children

- The sole responsibility of the entire family was headed upon the eldest brother or sister

Since these elder brothers or sisters were up with huge responsibilities, say managing basic requirements like food and accommodation, taking care of their parents, educating younger brothers and sisters, and marriages. They had no other choice at all rather than to search safer secure job and to settle first.

When the eldest of the families, who are supposed to preach to the younger ones regarding their future carrier and life, comes under this kind of circumstances, it's obvious that the children in the family reluctantly follow their elder's footprints blindly.

Unknowingly the limits for children were created!

This is how it started and the same ideology has been transferred from one generation to another and sadly even now, the entire schooling of the children has been to the purpose of having a settled job, it's the same thing the students are being taught in the family as well as in their entire schooling, that's how we have been forced to do the same thing, unsurprisingly it has become an instinct for the majority.

There is no reason for us to continue that same ideology everywhere because presently the situation has changed.

It was all about the past of our own now let's discuss the future.

If you are again one of those students dreaming of a well-settled job, that's fine and good because the pros and cons are on both sides with equal magnitude, and also each one has different capabilities regarding their field, hence some lines in this may not be universal, I am just concentrating on those who had potential but missed out. it was "risk hai tho Ishq hai" sort of a situation for people who had potential but missed it.

And if you are a student who is confused about your career and do not have any specific goals, don't worry there is a way to destroy your dilemma

During this type of dilemma, students badly need the guidance of experienced professionals to make a move.

One of my professors named N Guruprasad sir, whom I consider one of the best professors I have ever met, takes sessions on personality development and also across several other fields across colleges in his free time, with the only intention to empower the youth upon whom the nation stands.

One of his best sessions also includes career options, where students will be enlightened with several types of career options, that are available after degree with complete details and explanation.

And we are absolutely lucky to have these sessions for free on YouTube, thankyou NGP sir

After watching this session, I hope you would be out of your dilemma and frame out your plan successfully.

Also, consider sharing those videos with your friends with whom you think it is an absolute necessary

Now let's come to the main part of this blog, if in case you have watched career options session and if you feel business, startup, entrepreneurship whatever it is termed, is your cup of cake, then the next part is for you

Basic guidelines and my personal recommendations

  • According to what I have experienced, people's perspective that having a great idea will end up with an extraordinary business is an absolute myth, we actually don't need a great idea, in fact, all ideas are the same in the beginning and the one which gets huge success would be termed as great

  1. The idea can be as simple as selling flower pots to branded items if it's product-based, Parlour to the IT industry if it is service-based. don't hesitate about the idea, because it's the passion+income that should drive our life not just money and pseudo prestige in the society.

  2. Find the field you are passionate about or possibly the field that could get you backbone support from the family ( if there is already a family business), and then find the problem in the society, which is associated with the field that you are passionate about, once done now start intensifying the specialised knowledge in your field pertaining to the problem

  3. And finally, you have to work day in and day out to get the best solution to the problem, which can be provided to a big chunk of the population especially in return for money (solution suitable for initiating business)

On a simpler note, this is what it requires completely in the preliminary stage when you think of starting.

Once you get a little bit into these things, if you think you are in phase with the requirements and also if you feel you have got an idea, then consider the following suggestions

  1. Upgrad is an online education platform, which has a course named start-up India, which was sponsored by the government of India in 2016 as an initiative to create more startups. This course could be considered as a Bible while starting up.

  2. Then one can consider reading books named lean startup and 100$ startup,

there are several books available in the market, but I feel these two will definitely add value.

  1. FKCCI- federation of Karnataka chambers of commerce and industry, its state government powered organisation, whose sole existence is to develop and maintain healthy business activities in the state and they are meant to support and help us by various means, visit their official website and YouTube for more information and education content related to startups. FKCCI official website - https://www.fkcci.org/ Youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCARkNhRXeKnlW8GMS8tadMw They also organise a competition called Manthan. A business plan presentation competition, where they train the participants with the realities of business in the present scenario and after training, competition will be held by collecting the business ideas, the winners of this competition gets a free incubation centre, additional coaching, guidance, mentors and also a seed funding worth rupees 6 lakh as of now

Startups and businesses also play a major role in the nation's development, if you are an entrepreneur, you are not just thinking of making more money, but indirectly contributing to the development of the nation's economy, how? go through

-Entrepreneurs create job

-They introduce changes in the society

-Entrepreneurs are the great philanthropist

-Entrepreneurs improve the standard of living

-Entrepreneurs supports other entrepreneurs

And now it's your choice to be one of them.

In a growing economy, entrepreneurs have a vital role to play, as they are the building blocks for the future development of the nation.

Conclusion - yes it's not easy, it's not at all easy for sure, but what it takes is a bit of courage innovation and risk appetite, if we just have perseverance within us, we can definitely work on all these aspects

I am also one among you, on the same path.

I have got much to say, but I don't want to bore you, neither I don't want to miss this beautiful line.
